I really enjoyed this week's resources and what they had to share about how students learn. I especially like the constructivist theory. This theory states that people learn best when doing things, like building an artifact and then they share it with others. In my classroom, I ask my students to complete projects, and then sometimes they share their final results with the class. The students enjoy doing the projects, because it is like they are taking control over their own learning. They create things and construct their own meanings. I believe that when students build and create they will remember things longer, or have something to connect a piece of information with.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Shonda,
ReplyDeleteI agree that students enjoy doing the projects and some of them don't even realize that they are learning or reviewing at the same time. Students like to be engaged and enjoy just doing something rather than sitting and listening or writing. When you think back to what you remember about school a lot of times it's the cool projects or places that you got to go to. When kids go home and their parents ask them what they did at school just imagine how much they would have to talk about or show if they got to create something rather than the normal response "not much" or "I don't remember". Parents also love seeing what students do in school so allowing the students to bring home something tangible will be the talk of the dinner table possibly. It's important for teachers to make as many memorable moments as possible!
