GAME PLAN Progress Week 5

These past few weeks have been very stressful for me, but now I am ready to focus on my GAME plan. I talked to a few teachers about cross-curriculum ideas and collaborating for next year, but I didn’t get much feedback. Of course everyone was like that sounds great, but they kind of just blew me off. I am the new person on the team with three veterans, so they are kind of happy with the way things are. So I think just trying to complete my first goal, which is collaboration will be a little difficult. My second goal of expanding my knowledge and confidence with technology is going quite well. My district is offering free course this summer, and I have already signed up for two. One is a digital camera course and the other a smart board course. I am already familiar with the smart board, but I want to stay up to date with changes and new information.

Implementing my plan will really get started when school starts back in August and I am excited. I want to inspire my students and challenge them at the same time. I am really looking forward to this.

  1. Shonda,

I know that getting vet. co-workers to cross over to a change can be somewhat difficult at times but don't give up. Keep trying and stay positive. Also with the cross curr. I got blew off the first time I attempted too, but I went to the chair and that avenue has seemed to lead me to a meeting with them next week, so keep trying on that end as well eventually a door will open.

  2. Shonda,

I also feel that is difficult to break through the brick walls set up by experienced teachers. Perhaps, you can reach out to teachers who contribute to blogs in your content area or grade level. Try searching in Google for blogs in your grade area and maybe you can have some great conversations with others who are willing to try to improve. Although, I guess that does not really help to get cross-disciplinary lessons actually going on with others in your school. Maybe if the idea you come up with is so good.
Have a great summer and don't think about it too much.

  3. Shonda,
I agree that it can be tough to set up a collaboration, but maybe there will be a new teacher coming in to your school that would be eager to work with another teacher. It is tough to get some teachers to change their ways, but sometimes if you just do a cross-curricular project and another teacher sees good results they will offer to collaborate to help you next time.

Good luck with your courses, hopefully you will get a lot out of both of them and you will find creative uses of digital cameras and smartboards in your classroom.
