My first reaction when looking at this particular website was that it was going to be a whole lot of boring reading. Everything looked organized and well thoughout, but will it really benefit me? As I skimmed across the information, the members and partners really grabbed my attention. Seeing those big names like Dell, U.S Department of Education, and the National Education Association really made me feel like this could be interesting and worth looking into with more depth. I honestly thought it was going to talk about all these different kinds of technology and teaching kids how to use them to their advantage. I was surprised to see that the website proposed plans about how bring education, business, and government together. The proposals wanted to create productive memebers of society.
I don't really agree or disagree with the information on the website. I think it all sounds grand. There are so many plans and proposals to do this and that when it comes to providing and better education for our students, I'm just anticipating the day when something really happens.

Shonda, I thought the same thing at first. It looked like a lot of boring information but once I read the mission statement and read a few pages, I was really impressed. I think this is something coming that will really benefit our students and better prepare them for the real world when they graduate. I can't wait to share the website with my colleagues!
ReplyDeleteShonda,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on how the site bridged education, buisnesses and governments together to enhance future relationships rather than promote what is currently occurring. Yes, there are big names on their list but that doesn't necessarioy impress me, however, if it could motivate teachers and students to begin to educate throuhg an innovative format, then maybe the future can be here sooner rather than remain in the distant future.
Shonda,
ReplyDeleteI thought there was a great deal of information about why we need to teach 21st century skills to our students, but not enough information on how to get the funding needed for our students to be life-long leaners. Only a few states were on board, and it is amazing how quickly technology keeps changing. What are we waiting for? We need to have the tools needed to teach 21st century skills to our students. Funding has to be a priority so that the training is available for teachers and the equipment is in our schools.
Shonda,
ReplyDeleteMay I ask, is there any specific former plan that you thought was grand, which came along before 21st Century Skills to which you are refring when you say, "so many plans and proposals to do this and that"?
I've been teaching for 6 years, not nearly long enough (by my estimation) to have witenessed many plans which never came to fruition. I'd love to hear more about what former ideas in education snuffed out after a quick flame.
Shonda,
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else, I agree with you that there are definitely some impressive names on the members list. I think this is a good combination of education, business, and governmental leaders. I too think this could be a good thing if educators are able to provide a better education for our students.
Shonda,
ReplyDeleteAn excellent point! "Grand" plan but will it actually happen? I suppose if there is a financial gain for corporate America there is a chance. I noticed that many of our colleagues noticed the involvement of major corporations. Free advertising? Incentive to be involved? Amazing what a cynic I've become in such a short time teaching!
